Gift Bag Tutorial

How cute is this that I found at P.S. I Quilt! Completely adorable. I plan on trying this very thing out, but with no batting and using canvas and cotton fabrics.

On another note, I haven't blogged in awhile. Do you all miss me?! What have you been doing lately?

Reusable baggies with a touch of hairclip holder

I couldn't stop thinking about sewing and crafting tonight. It was in me to get the kids to bed so I could finish one project and start another!

Today I put together a reusable sandwich bag and reusable snack bag. This was completely simple. I did think I was going to have more issues than I had, but nope. Only issue was my machine! Take a look:

So what I did here is glanced over a tutorial that I saw (I didn't really read the instructions, I just looked at the pictures to remember it. That is ADHD for you. Disregard reading something to learn it, just look at the pictures and put it together how you think it goes. haha Honestly, I do read the directions if I get stuck at a certain part. It's almost like I feel I am cheating or something when I do it. *shrugs*). As you can see, I used the carrot fabric I received from an old friend of mine. I used rip stop nylon and every day use velcro. Bean loves it! I am already looking at it for improvements and putting my own spin on things. I don't like velcro, but it just seems to fit that way for crumb issues. I do want to sew on the velcro so I don't sew on the outside of the bag (I think it looks prettier that way). I will also be making a matching napkin. If I have enough fabric left, I should try to make a lunch sack. Hmmmm...

For my crafting project it was a hairpin holder idea I came across when searching for Fancy Nancy fonts. It was a blog detailing a Fancy Nancy birthday party the woman had for her 6 year old (I also got a fruit display idea from the same blog). Take a look:

There really wasn't much to it. I sewed the ribbon at the top to strengthen the hold. Then hot glued the smaller width ribbon onto the thicker ribbon. Then I hot glued the shiny things in place. This one is not completed. I am currently searching for a little flower to put at the top to make it more "fancy". The holder itself can hold a headband and hairclip, as you see being demonstrated. If only Michael's and Hobby Lobby had those dang flowers! Joann's was a no win situation as well. Hrmph. I will find it, this weekend!

It's nice having a hobby. It relaxes me.

Cloth Trainer...the Prefold way!

I finally did it! I completed a trainer using a prefold diaper, PUL, cotton fabric piece, snaps, and FOE. What do you think?

I do plan on making more, but in the pull up type. I am currently using a borrowed snap plier and snaps and do not want to use a lot of them. Thank you Sabrina! I will also be using other fabric means, instead of a prefold for the next one. This should be very interesting.

I was just recently picked to be a tester for Tiny Birds Organics cloth training pants. They are doing the pull up style with organic cotton velour for the inner, and a cotton fabric as the outer. As of tomorrow, we are going to go full blast potty training Z-baby. She is ready in my opinion. So between me making them and getting testers, this is going to be very cost effective.

Wish me luck!

Mod Podge & Sewing Machines

LOVE the Mod Podging coaster idea, so I decided to try it tonight. I did not use a tutorial, I just went ahead and thought I could do it on my own. HA!

I am making a set of coasters for a friend of mine as a belated wedding gift. The idea came up when I was in Michael's tonight and saw some Owl themed scrapbook paper. I knew I could mod podge paper onto ceramic tile, so I thought why the hell not! FYI, she LOVES Owls as if you couldn't guess already.

I applied Mod Podge on the tile and then laid the paper neatly on top. GREAT! Looks fabulous. My mistake? I didn't wait for it to dry before I added a layer of Mod Podge OVER the paper. When I started seeing the bubbles, I thought, "Yup, you should've waited for it to dry." BOGUS!

Totally OK! I just need to head to Michael's again at lunch tomorrow and purchase more sheets. Luckily they are having a 4/$1 sale on loose scrapbook paper. I knew I should've started on the other sheet print I bought!

I will post pictures of the finished product over the weekend.

But...on a BRIGHTER note. I had an "aha" moment today. I just couldn't stand the fact that I wouldn't have a sewing machine for another few weeks so I walked over to the Singer 237 and decided to really look it over and make sure it isn't out of alignment. I know I have broken needles before and never needed to get the machine serviced (newer machines, of course). Low and behold after playing around for about 5 - 10 minutes I realized that the thread in the tension dial was incorrect. Once I threaded it correctly, the machine now sews perfect again!

Unfortunately it is too late for me to sew or craft right now. 5:45am comes awfully early.

NIGHT friends and family! <3
